the new units
I had a pleasant and productive discussion this afternoon with my long time friend who I just met, a Mr Seth Ricart XIV. We have decided that the many accepted units of measurement are flawed. For instance, why use degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius which have no intuitive meaning when you can use number of sheets?; As in the the number of sheets you would need to cover yourself with to be as warm as it is outside (assuming you're starting out frozen). This makes so much sense - people around the world would know that an average day is like being wrapped in 20 sheets and a really hot day would be like being wrapped in piles and piles of sheets (50ish, maybe). See? It's perfect! But why stop at temperature? Take distance, and instead of measuring it in something meaningless like a yard, mile, or meter (have you ever seen a meter as big as a meter?) you could measure in stone skips. For instance, the width of a queen size bed is 2 stone skips and the distance between your front door and the street is like 5 stone skips on a lake. And it gets fun when you measure things like a football field, which is about 1,587,403 stone skips away (because the skips get really really close together after 20 or so). Finally, units of measurement are fun again!
